Awakening the popular imagination, special guest Amanda Hambrick Ashcraft

Inspired by Walter Brueggemann, this episode is all about the ragtag hopers... “Those who refuse, deny, or doubt the totalizing claims and who continue to keep imagining and attempting alternative modes of life, and who keep experimenting with the strange virtues of justice that take various forms of neighborliness.” (Brueggemann, God, Neighbor, Empire)

The Biblical response to the extraction economy of totalism is prophetic movement- non-credentialized poets with no pedigree who create imaginative space such that things could be different.  They use Hymns and poems filled with playful imagery to shake us out of our assumptions of extraction to show the world could be organized differently because God is among us.

Prophetic imagination is aimed to subvert extractive ideology of Empire regime.  It is no wonder that the authorities tried to silence these Biblical poets/prophets.
