The prophet Nahum thinks that God "is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath. The Lord takes vengeance on his foes and vents his wrath against his enemies."
The prophet Jonah thinks that God "is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and ready to relent from punishing."
They can't both be right.
