Mari Yoshihara: Leonard Bernstein, the Rise of China in Classical Music, and the MeToo Movement
On September 14, 2020, Mari Yoshihara, American Studies, University of Hawaii, Manoa, gave a talk titled, "Dearest Lenny: Letters from Japan and the Making of a World Maestro." "Dearest Lenny" traces the making of a global Bernstein amidst the shifting political economy of the arts and global politics that made this American celebrity turn increasingly to Europe and Japan.
