Welcome to a new podcast featuring conversations between a comedian (Mike Lebovitz) and a philosopher (Duncan Gale) about matters both high and low brow. In this inaugural episode we learn a bit about our two heroes – Duncan has been obsessively studying German and reading Plato in an attempt to avoid exposure as a fraud, and Mike is on the verge of Christmas-induced bankruptcy. After these introductory remarks, the conversation quickly shifts to politics and the most burning question of the day – what the hell is going on in our country right now?! Mike and Duncan try to sort out the online debates about the January 6th attack on the Capitol building, and they reminisce about a time in American political debate when there were two intellectually legitimate points of view. Other topics are also addressed, such as the de-platforming of Trump on social media and what the ultimate legacy of his presidency will be, as well as some of the most common logical fallacies that come up in political arguments. This all probably sounds pretty serious, but there’s a lot of laughs as well, and that’s the basic mission statement of this podcast – funny conversations about serious topics, and serious conversations about funny topics.
