UPFRONT Moment with Lauren Currie
Education
Fionna Inward Allen is a self-proclaimed “Poet-writer-performer, activist, educator, single mum, half-glass-full, smurf-sized, watermelon-mouthed, Northern gobshite”
She’s a Bond 7 graduate and a regular on the Manchester Poetry Circuit. Fionna has been creating and performing poetry, fiction, theatre and personal essays for over 25 years.
We talked about giving yourself permission to be creative, about finding stillness in our busy lives. We talked about how important it is to look at the role we play in our domestic spaces and how to form your own creativity committee.
Fionna performs two of her poems, ‘Blueprint of a House’ - about the moment she realised she had to separate from her new baby's father. And ‘Bringing Twigs’ - a poem she wrote whilst on benefits, scribbling sums on a notepad, trying to figure out how she was going to pay her bills.
