Dolly Parton’s Final Days

Hour 2 (8.25) She was admitted to Vanderbilt on Friday morning. That same day, a PEOPLE interview ran in which she said she was still healing and still working. Four days later she was gone.

7:20 — SoCal Edison cut power to a stretch of Huntington Park from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday for planned maintenance, on a day the city was under an extreme heat warning. Mayor Eddie Martinez is asking Edison to move the next three, set for Aug. 27 and Sept. 1. Cooling centers are open at Salt Lake Park and Raul Perez Park.

7:35 — The Empire State Building went pink from 9:25 to 10:25, timed to "9 to 5." The DJ at Arthur Ashe put on "Jolene" during a changeover. And Eminem posted the note Dolly sent him after the 2022 Rock Hall induction — she wrote that she'd always felt an unexplained connection to him and had hoped to meet him at the show. They never did.

7:50- The last four days. She went into Vanderbilt early Friday morning. Hours later, PEOPLE published an interview where she admitted she'd let her own health slide while she was taking care of Carl and insisted she was still healing and still working. She died Tuesday morning at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center with family around her; her nephew Bryan Seaver, her head of security for two decades, announced it in a video she'd asked him to make years earlier.
