This is the edited recording with annotations of the talk given by Sis Sylvia Bay on Sat, 22 August 2020 at Buddhist Fellowship 'Facebook Live'.
Bhikkhunupassaya Sutta SN 47.10 - This is one of the lesser known suttas on meditation where Ānanda reported to the Buddha on the nun's meditation progress. In sharing this sutta, Sis Sylvia Bay explains how one can achieve samādhi when right mental conditions are present and features of first and second jhānas. At the end she unveiled the cryptic meaning of what Buddha meant when he said at the end: These are the feet of trees, Ānanda, these are empty huts. Meditate, Ānanda, do not be negligent, lest you regret it later. This is our instruction to you.” Understanding Buddha's cryptic message would dispel the notion that meditation refers only to jhānas and why it is essential that in our daily sitting and practice we should focus on the cultivation of the four foundations of mindfulness as well.
