In his interview with Bioenergetics Beat Host Heather Gray, Fred lays out the importance of family, friends and co-workers in helping Lyme sufferers as valued companions on their path to recovery.
For one thing, he sees the proliferation of Lyme support groups as a strong indication of the lack of meaningful support offered by those closest to victims of the disease. Isolation itself is a symptom of Lyme. From husbands and wives to family doctors, those with the disease are often faced with expressions of doubt as to the seriousness of their symptoms, or even if they are real, imagined or simply a ploy seeking sympathy.
Among the tips offered are the suggestion of accompanying doctor visits and creating familiar routines and expectations of support. Also discussed is the importance on the part of those with Lyme to be realistic about what they can and cannot do, and when. Acceptance of the situation at any point in time and acting accordingly by resting and not overdoing are critical to progress.
