A&R: Building Your Best Career with Universal Music Canada’s, Amanda Kingsland

Amanda Kingsland has spent over twenty years in the music industry, and it all started in radio. She worked tirelessly over the years, diving into every area of interest she could, while also working at Rogers as a Music Director.

After years of advocation for artists, Canadian music, and representation in Country music, Amanda transitioned out of radio in 2021, making the move to Universal Music Canada as Director of A&R, where she's since been promoted to Vice President. 

Amanda's role really involves making artists and their music ready for fans. From discovery and scouting, to building a roster, selecting music, and connecting artists to collaborators, the role of A&R is really embedded in an artist's career.

Amanda shared some great advice for independent artists who don't have labels and A&R folks on their teams. She also offers an exercise for artists who are working independently.

Her greatest advice? Networking. Sending emails. Following up with people.
