Hello, friends. In this episode, I answer questions centered around the difficulty in securing the job of your dreams post University and the impact this can have on your mental health, and what to do when you feel like you’re unable or too anxious to speak your mind in therapy.
Hello! I am looking for some advice! I studied at University for 8 years of my life and ended up in the same job that I was in before I left for university. I have not been able to get a job with my degree no matter how hard I have tried. I feel like I’ve wasted all my time (and money) working my arse off for a degree, and feel as though other people who did not put in effort are well ahead of me. I am now struggling financially and mentally feeling as though I am a failure and a waste of time. I am at the point where I am willing to give up my dream job and chase an easier job so that I don’t continue down this path. What can I do in this situation? Thanks, love the podcast. Genuinely helpful xx
Hi Dr. Duff, thank you for your awesome podcast! I’m writing in because I’m too nervous to voice this to my therapist. I constantly feel like I’m living session to session. Each week I can hear a voice in my head basically counting down the days until I can go to therapy or saying “Just make it to your next session”. What confuses me is that I think what I look forward to so much is getting a chance to sit in my anxiety or sadness with someone else in the room. It’s almost like I want to have a panic attack or completely breakdown but in the end I always just end up sitting in silence for a while as he watches me think myself into a hole until I completely lose sight of anything I’ve ever wanted to talk about. Have you ever experienced something similar with a client? It feels kind of pathetic and I’m worried to admit it. Thank you for reading!
