World Wrestling Resource Podcast
Sports:Wrestling
Dan Gable had the opportunity to coach the late Dave Schultz on World and Olympic teams. On Episode 51 of the World Wrestling Resource Podcast, Gable explains when he first heard about some teenager from California entering the Tblisi tournament and what happened next.
Gable recounts why he was a better fit at Oklahoma with coach Stan Abel at the time and how Schultz was constantly studying the sport in a time before easily traded video was available.
Gable also recounts the dynamic of the 1984 team and the Schultz brothers as well as a quick sidebar about the Ed Banach vs. Mark Schultz NCAA final from 1982.
