Dove, a chocolate brand of United States-based Mars Inc, issued a public apology on Tuesday after a short video advertisement sparked widespread outrage in China for appearing to endorse infidelity and undermine relationship values.

美国玛氏公司旗下巧克力品牌德芙8月25日公开发布致歉声明。此前，一则短视频广告因被指纵容出轨、破坏感情价值观而在中国引发广泛愤怒。

The controversial clip, posted around this year's Qixi Festival on Aug 19 — China's equivalent of Valentine's Day — featured a protagonist saying, "I asked my boyfriend for a long time for a Dove colorful gift box, but he never bought it for me. Today, while my boyfriend is away, I shared it with my romantic interest."
这则争议广告于今年8月19日七夕节（中国情人节）前后发布。视频中，主角说道：“我找男朋友要了很久的德芙缤纷礼盒，他一直没买给我。今天男朋友不在，我和我的小情人一起分享了。”

In a screenshot shared online, a customer service representative told a complaining customer that the video was a "personal creation and does not represent the brand's stance", adding that "if you don't like it, you can scroll away."
在网上流传的一张截图中，一位客服代表在回复投诉顾客时称该视频为“个人创作，不代表品牌立场”，并补充说“如果不喜欢，可以划走”。

In an apology posted on its official Weibo account, the company said the video was created and published by a third-party store operations team and failed to go through the company's proper content review process.
该公司在官方微博账号发布的致歉声明中称，该视频由第三方店铺运营团队制作并发布，未经过公司正规的内容审核流程。

It admitted that the advertisement copy had "obvious flaws in its expression and value orientation" and was inconsistent with the brand's philosophy of "sincerity, warmth and respect".

It also acknowledged that the customer service team's initial response was inappropriate and said it had thoroughly reviewed the matter.

The company said it has removed the video, strengthened training for relevant personnel, enhanced oversight of its cooperation with third-party teams, and strictly implemented its content review mechanism.
