Trump Threatens to Use Insurrection Act to End Minneapolis Protests; US Seizes Venezuela-Linked Tanker Ahead of Trump–Machado Meeting

President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act and deploy troops to quell protests against ICE agents in Minneapolis. This comes as tensions escalate in the city following a violent nighttime confrontation between an ICE agent and an illegal immigrant in the city. The Department of Homeland Security said the immigrant ambushed the agent, who shot the attacker in the leg in self-defense.

President Trump and Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado will meet at the White House on Thursday. Just hours before the meeting, U.S. Southern Command confirmed in a post on X that U.S. armed forces had seized another Venezuela-linked oil tanker in the Caribbean.
