Ecologist Carl Safina has made it his life's work to study how humans are changing the world -- and how those changes are affecting non-humans and the planet. In his latest book, Becoming Wild: How Animal Cultures Raise Families, Create Beauty, and Achieve Peace, the acclaimed researcher and author examines the lives of sperm whales, chimpanzees and macaws. When we humans aren't getting in their way -- and invading their space -- the way animals live isn't so very different from how we do. It's a realization that may help enable us to save species from extinction.
