Meditation on Your Mother Line for Mother's Day.
Transcript:
Meditation on your mother line is a practice that connects you deeply with your ancestry and lineage. It reminds us that we belong to something bigger than ourselves. It involves reflecting on the women in your family who came before you, their stories, their struggles, their triumphs, and their legacy. By doing so, you can gain a better understanding of yourself, your roots, and the patterns and traits that have been passed down to you. The gifts and the wounds that still live in your own body.
To begin, find a quiet and comfortable space where you can sit or lie down. Take a few deep breaths and close your eyes. Visualize yourself standing at the beginning of a long and winding path. This path represents your mother line. As you walk down the path, try to imagine the women who came before you.
Your mother, when was she born? You don’t have to know the exact date but think about the decade she was born in. What was happening in the world? What were the stories around women then? What freedoms and restraints might have influenced her choices?
Your grandmothers, when were they born? What decade were they born in. What was happening in the world during their lifetime? What were the stories around being a woman then? What freedoms and restraints might have influenced their choices? your great-grandmothers, and so on. Think about their lives, their experiences, and their contributions to your family and the world.
As you continue down the path, pay attention to any thoughts or feelings that come up for you. Notice any patterns or similarities between yourself and the women in your family. Consider how their stories have influenced your own story and shaped who you are today.
