How do you decorate your home to make
it look like a professional did it?
This is the question asked by one of our listeners - how do you get professional looking results when decorating your home? This is a two part series (subscribe to listen to part 2 on Tuesday, May 21st).
Keep these four decorating principles in mind while decorating your home:
1. Less is more. This doesn't always mean you need to declutter, though that's a good first step. Less can mean, fewer items, fewer matching sets, a less stuffed couch, less of the footprint taken up by furniture in general.
2. Scale matters. Paying attention to size guidelines is critical for getting a room to look just right. A too small area rug or too short of curtains can instantaneously spoil good design.
3. Repetition is key. Repetition of design elements is how one creates a cohesive looking home. Repetition in the large details is important, but when that repetition carries to the small details...that's where it starts looking 'professional.'
4. Practice, experiment, change things often. This is your permission to play. If you only intake ideas and never practice them, you'll be left wondering what a professionally designed home looks like.
Part two of how to make your home look like a professional was there, will be airing next week. Subscribe to listen.
