Georgetown Global Health Podcast
Health & Fitness
In our first episode of 2020, M.S. student Charlotte Follari welcomes Dr. Matthew Kavanagh, Assistant Professor in the Department of International Health, to the Georgetown Global Health Podcast for a fascinating discussion on the intersection of global health, politics, and law. Tune in to hear about Dr. Kavanagh’s recent appointment to UNAIDS Scientific & Technical Advisory Committee, and how power and politics impact global health issues like coronavirus. A political scientist by training, with a long history of work in global health policy and politics, Dr. Kavanagh is a Visiting Professor of Law at Georgetown and directs the Global Health Policy & Governance Initiative at the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law. He has done research and policy work around the world and was a visiting researcher at the South African Institute for Advanced Constitutional, Public, Human Rights, and International Law in Johannesburg. Prior to his academic positions, he led transnational policy efforts at NGOs in the U.S. and Southern Africa focused on HIV and tuberculosis treatment, international trade, and water rights.
