Are you worried about the stress and the not-so-healthy food choices that come along with the holiday season? How can you stay keto this time of the year? Here are some tips to make it through the holidays and still feeling good by the time the New Year rolls in. It’s no secret that this time of year, the whole month of December, is the most stressful time for all of us. This is where we have to stay in the right mindset in order to continue putting our health as a priority and not giving in to emotional eating. What you eat is ultimately your decision. It’s all about you and what you want to do. There is so much room within keto, and this holiday season could really be a chance for you to experiment with how flexible your keto can be. The best way to start the conversation with someone who’s interested in knowing more about keto is telling them your story, sharing your health journey, and letting them know how keto has been for you. Action Steps: Ditch the diet mentality. Do daily check-ins of how your meals make you feel. Where does each of your meals fall on the health and happiness spectrum? Practice daily gratitude. Take your stress management and self-care to a whole new level starting NOW. When you’re going to a party: Bring your own keto dish to pass. Don’t go hungry. Eat before you go. Give yourself a pep talk. Get back to your bigger WHY. If someone questions what you’re eating or not eat and why you’re putting certain things on your plate, the simple thing is just to let them know that you’re working on XYZ health issues and eating this way has really helped it and is continuing to help it. Keep your ‘movement’ a high priority. Don’t stop going to the gym. Make sure you’re getting good quality sleep. Don’t let your stress levels get so high that you’re not getting any sleep. We need to think about them as one all-encompassing thing. The beliefs you have stored away in your subconscious mind are still dictating how you feel, think, react, and act today. The self-talk that comes from those beliefs and the emotions that come from that self-talk are the stuff that we need to be looking at when we take on the idea of healing our body. Our bodies are not built to handle the chronic stress that we encounter in today’s world. Your negative thoughts keep you in a heightened stress response no matter how much you try not to listen to that negative chatter in your mind and no matter how often you try to listen to your intuition instead. Studies show that negative thinking, which results in psychological stress, is one of the most prominent factors contributing to the overuse of your stress response. Stress from negative thinking creates changes in the brain that may affect your likelihood of mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, schizophrenia, and mood disorders. Repressed emotions can lead to a weakened immune system. Negative attitudes and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness upset the body’s hormone balance, depletes the brain chemicals required for happiness, and damages the immune system. Chronic stress can decrease our life span. Action Steps: Get the negative stuff going on deep within you out of your system and be the person that you want to be, with the health that you want to have and the happiness that you deserve. Start looking at your thoughts and your mindset. Learn more about yourself, and what you do and why you do it. Clean up your mindset. Listen to the Unstuck Podcast. Become aware of your thoughts. Reframe your thoughts and find the good. Manage your mindset with forgiveness. Do more positive things out there in the world for other people and for yourself. Meditate. Bring in joy. What’s your motivation for doing healthy things? With the holiday season just around the corner, how you can stay motivated to choose healthy and live healthy? If you’re one of those people who use changing your body as your motivator, find out how to save yourself from self-sabotage and get out of that mindset. Motivation is the reason(s) one has for acting or behaving in a particular way. It’s the general desire or willingness of someone to do something. “Changing your body” as your motivation doesn’t stick. Life will derail it, and it’s rocky at best. Motivation is not necessary when you’re able to fully trust and understand and enjoy your life and your body with your intuitive sense. Instead of needing a driver or motivator to eat healthy and not make “mistakes” this holiday season, we can have a driver to listen to our bodies. Your motivator should be something internal, something rock solid, something you want to feel. Keto can be the bridge from dieting to intuitive eating. Action Steps: Make changing your mindset your motivation. Consider the making following your motivations: To live a life of freedom, peace, ease, and clarity around every single thing that you do, especially the food that you put on your plate. To never have to rely on external motivators (e.g. to lose 10 pounds, to look better in a bathing suit, to have more toned arms, etc.) To feel confident about your choices. To not have to follow another program made for someone else’s body. To learn how to listen to your body and trust your intuition. Expand your horizons when it comes to how you get your motivation. Change your motivator from “How do you want to look?” to “How do you want to feel?” Evaluate your motivations. Journal about it. What is that something that you want to do or you are doing, and what is your desire/reason/willingness behind that? See if you can reconfigure your motivation into something more than your external appearance or weight loss goals.
