Vocal Booth Weekender Set Recreation

Hi all, I am sure that most that read this site are aware that this year saw the last Vocal booth weekender in Spain, I have had the honour of playing almost every event for 16 years so this year was special and emotional. Unfortunately due to a technical issue on the day the live recording was not great so I decided to recreate it on my Revolve Radio show, that will also be podcasted on the VB Radio site but decided to put just the set up here, no microphone etc for a better listening experience. I was very proud of the set and had some amazing feedback from people including many of my peers, I have actually been asked to do a guest mix for Lars Deeper Shades of House show after he heard my set on the day, high praise and an honour, date for that one incoming as soon as I have it. Revolve Radio Modern Soul Special

Hi all, So I have thought about doing a modern soul special for a while and it has now happened. As well as playing music that I love a couple of days before the show I had the idea of sharing knowledge of how the genre started, the time lines and who first coined the term modern soul. I started to do some research and quickly realised it was not well documented. Rather than just leave it I pushed on and decide to reach out to some key figures to ask their opinion on it. I did not manage to get a definitive answer although a lot of the same people where discussed. In hindsight I should have done this many weeks or even months before but as I had already advertised the special it had to go ahead. At this point I would like to thank those that I did speak too namely, Andy Davies, Bob Jeffries, Arthur Fenn, Yogi Haughton, Dave Thorley and Steve Guarnori. Some very interesting phone calls happened and I am still in the mindset of talking to more and attempting to document it. Below is the show recording, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did

The first Vocal Booth Radio Gathering

As most of you are aware Andy Ward started the Vocal Booth Radio station some time ago and recently held a gathering for all the DJ’s and listeners at the Hockley Social Club in Birmingham. It was a wonderful day and a great chance to meet many of the stations DJ’s face to face, many of us know each other already but great to meet those that we never had before. the main focus was the terrace but also a few of us played in the larger warehouse area selecting music while people had food and chatted. I was one of the 4 or 5 dj’s that played the warehouse and here is the recording. a lot of soul and a splash of reggae but think mellow, downtempo vibes as background music. Its a nice listen if I don’t say so myself
