This week brings back Alan Mackenzie for a frank discussion about the YouTube videos that are unsuitable for children. This video has been on hold as the media storm has created a pandemic of both accurate and inaccurate news. We dissect this in this podcast
We discuss parenting, e-safety and the impact of these videos on children and their wellbeing (emotional, psychological and mental health) We look at options about monitoring and we also discuss whether the child friendly version of YouTube is any better in terms of safety for the child.

Alan Mackenzie is a consultant who has specialised in the area of online safety for over 11 years within education. Speaking in hundreds of schools and conferences every year, Alan is passionate about the positive and appropriate use of technology and the huge benefits that can be realised through global connectivity and collaboration; he believes that good digital skills are vital in order to help children and young people embrace the wonderful opportunities whilst mitigating the risks. This means not teaching with fear and scary stories, but realistic advice, guidance and non-judgemental support. This advice and guidance needs to be extended to staff and, importantly, to parents too. Whilst Alan also provides training to staff and parents, he also produces the free half-termly magazine, DITTO, in order to keep staff and parents up to date with new and emerging issues.
