The Insurance Industry and Slavery

We will be hearing from Dr. Michael Ralph on the development of the insurance industry and its relationship to slavery. His research integrates political science, economics, history, and medical anthropology through an explicit focus on debt, slavery, insurance, forensics, and incarceration. Dr. Ralph is completing a book entitled, Life. This book will explore how the American insurance industry affixes monetary value to human life.
