The dashas are in a sequence called the Vimshottari Mahadasha - this translates to "120 year great time period" - as in the average human ideally lives 120 years. The dasha shows you what fruit is ripe in your life. The dashas depend greatly on the graha's placement and strength in their chart, so to fully interpret your dasha you'll need to know the sign, house and nakshatra the graha is placed in. For example the Sun dasha is very different for someone who has Sun in Aries than someone who as their Sun in Libra, and so on. If you don't know your dasha, go to https://www.quietmindastrology.com and get your free birth chart. You'll see your dasha listed something like this: Sa - Su - Mo. The letters are abbreviations of the grahas (planets). Sa = Saturn, Su = Sun and so on. The first one is your Mahadasha. So this example is in the Saturn Mahadasha. There are 4 more layers of subdasha, but the first layer, the Mahadasha, is the most important one. Listen to that to know your current themes this year.
