Dr. Justin Haegele (Twitter: @Justin_Haegele) joins Dr. Kevin Richards for an episode of Going Behind the Research. This talk focuses on the article below:
Haegele, J. A., Ball, L. E., Zhu, X., Keene, M. A., & Nowland, L. A. (2022). Absent, Incapable, and “Normal”: Understanding the Inclusiveness of Visually Impaired Students’ Experiences in Integrated Physical Education. Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly, 1(aop), 1-22.
Rather than providing a forum to discuss research that is conducted in health and physical education, the Going Behind the Research segment focuses on telling the stories that surround research we read in scholarly journals. Globally, the segment aims to humanize research by providing a forum to discuss the movies that draw researchers toward particular topics and studies, challenges and successes experienced along the way, and lessons learned that transcend individual journal publications (e.g., lessons learn that impact future research decisions). Each episode will feature an interview with one or member members of an authorship team. Including a brief overview of the study, the common interview guide (linked below) will be used to facilitate each individual conversation. The conversations will, however, be unique in that follow-up questions will address topics raised by each interviewee.
The other article discussed is:
Peers, D., Spencer-Cavaliere, N., & Eales, L. (2014). Say what you mean: Rethinking disability language in Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly. Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly, 31(3), 265-282.
