Transition Wild - Sportsmen’s Empire
Sports:Wilderness
Today I’m joined by my good friend Brad Delman where we cover elk and mule deer shed antler hunting. I’m an avid shed hunter myself so it was fun to talk with Brad and pick his brain for all sorts of tips and strategies that he uses to come home with a heavy pack loaded down with antlers.
We cover the May 1st Colorado shed hunting restriction, why it was enacted, and our take on how it could be improved so animals are further protected during winter months. Brad talks about how he got into shed antler hunting a number of years ago and how he still has the bug till this day. He tells us how he uses Google Earth and OnXmaps to digital scout prior to ever putting boots on the ground and what terrain features he looks for that hold wintering animals. We discuss snow pack and how that affects wintering zones year to year as well as the differences in areas that hold mule deer versus elk. Brad is the shed hunting master so this is an episode you won’t want to miss!
