Torrey Maldonado, TIGHT

Torrey Maldonado is a middle school teacher in Brooklyn and the author of Tight and Secret Saturdays. He was voted a top-ten Latino author and best middle-grade and young-adult novelist for African Americans. His book Secret Saturdays was highlighted in The New York Times as a top book by and about Latinos. I had planned to read Tight with my kids, but it was too good to wait for them! It's a dynamic navigation of adolescent chaos - tough choices, peer pressure, conflicts at home - and finding a path through it. It was inspiring and memorable -- as was my conversation with the amazing Torrey!!
