so it was for me, bankrupt, dying (certainly my wife thought I was 'passing on') grieving over family losses, and extremely in debt. Ouch!!
I left medicine behind, simmering with an anger over why things didn't work out and disorientation as to what was my future. I did hate arguing with insurance companies over coding discrepancies, or explaining my recommended treatment plans for patient's other doctors. I wondered if the approach to medicine via appoints and tweeting patient back to health was really that effective.
I thought I left because I was dying.
I now see I left to learn more unencumbered by having a practice, or answering urgent phone calls or .....
That's when I started ready about low carb living, Keto, an entirely different perspective on metabolic health, and what that required. Applied it to me and was changed. Why hadn't I learned about this before? Realized for better or worse every institution has it's agenda however subtle or blatant it. My education was very plant based medicine diet wise.
My time became consumed with the history, the 'science' and the application of the Ketogenic diet.
That's when I knew I was ready to come back and do medicine differently.
