History iis full of people who set out with grand ambitions – lofty goals of fortune and fame. Others came across these shared desires by chance and their success reached heights even they could never have anticipated.
A simple mid-western boy graduated from Purdue University in 1928, with a degree in soil management & crop production. Upon his graduation, he began working as a county agricultural agent, and managed a 12,000-acre farm.
The same question perplexed this young farmer that every farmer starting out had to answer: What should I grow?
Somewhere along the way, he decided on breeding a new variety of… corn. In the process of growing his corn crops and expanding his fields, this young man partnered with a friend named, Charlie Bowman. Together they spent decades crossbreeding more than 30,000 corn hybrids. Finally, in 1965, the duo settled on what they considered to be the “perfect kernel.”
The perfect kernel for “popping” that is.
