In this episode we learn about happiness from an inner mammal perspective. Including questions like; how do we generate dopamine, serotonin, oxytoxin, and cortisol? and how do we work with our mammalian brain (the limbic system) and balance it with our developing/intellectual brain (the cortex)? It is quite fascinating to learn that we can be happier if we don't entirely squash the part of our brain that is hardwired for survival moves . I invite esteemed author Loretta Breuning, PhD on this episode to take us through her teachings on this subject. I first learned about Dr. Breuning after I experienced a tragic loss in my life and my friend and colleague and previous podcast guest, Dr. John Neustadt, told me to check out one of her books; Habits of a Happy Brain and after reading it I was enriched with additional tools to navigate my loss. More about Dr. Breuning....
Dr. Loretta Breuning is Founder of the Inner Mammal Institute and author of Habits of a Happy Brain: Retrain your brain to boost your serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin and endorphin levels. As Professor of Management at California State University, and as a mom, she was disappointed by prevailing views of human motivation. She searched for better answers and found studies of the brain chemistry we share with earlier mammals. Suddenly, everything made sense! She began creating resources to help people manage their inner mammal. The Inner Mammal Institute offers videos, books, podcasts, multimedia, and a training program, to help you make peace with your inner mammal. InnerMammalInstitute.org Her latest book is Tame Your Anxiety: Rewiring Your Brain for Happiness.
