I would submit that today's Scripture from Matthew 16:13-20 is one of the most controversial and often divisive text in all of the Bible. Why? Because of the question: What did Jesus mean when he said, "Rock?" The Roman Catholic church, for instance, would strongly argue that the rock was Peter. The Southern Baptist, however, would strongly reply that it was his faith and not the man. Does it matter? Yeah, kinda. For this difference often splits Christians along a very distinct line and for some, it is a line that must never be crossed. And this is felt on both sides of said line. So, what are some of the differences and why do they matter. Well, having existed on both sides of this line, I wanted to chat about it a bit. But, most importantly, I submit that in practice, the differences are real, but in relationship to one-another and most importantly, the relationship with God...well...they are very similar. And the prayer of this old guy would be that we can function with difference, but we can love with unity.
Now...grab that cup of coffee, sit at my table, and let's chat on this episode of Coffee with Keith.
