Habits Of The Few with Mo Naboulsi
Society & Culture
In this episode, we talk about the concept of humility, and why it's an important trait for entrepreneurs. I think when you're building a business, if you are going to grow big and if you are going to do something that is actually going to be meaningful in the world, then you need to have a huge ego to convince people and really capture people's imaginations and your own imagination.
But once things go wrong, what's amazing is that the bigger you are in your success, the quicker the comeback down. And so the true purpose in entrepreneurship is not how quickly you climb the mountain or how high you go; it's how strong you come back up after something has gone wrong. Learning that nuance between ego and humility, I think, is truly what separates amateur entrepreneurs from professionals.
The reality is that we're all afraid to fail. For some reason, in our society, failure is seen as a bad thing. Success comes with so much praise, but failure? So much criticism. I get it. I was once afraid of failing just as much as anyone else. But here's the deal: when you've failed enough times, you start to realize that there's nothing special about failure. It's not the end of the world. It doesn't mean that you are a terrible person. It means that you have made a mistake. And the more you do it, the better at recognizing those mistakes and changing course before it's too late. This isn't just my opinion: there is a science behind this. Research shows that fear of failure keeps us from going as far or as fast as we're capable...and until we can accept failure and use it to our advantage, it will hold us back from bigger success!
