Rachel Fasham | Luke 19:28-40
When [Jesus] came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: ‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples!’ ‘I tell you,’ he replied, ‘if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.’
What was the atmosphere really like, on that Palm Sunday when Jesus rode into Jerusalem? We get some idea from the dramatic reconstruction in this recording (thank you Explore Service team for putting it all together). Then Rachel goes on to ask whether, as for the crowd in Jerusalem, our expectations of Jesus match up with the reality.
The recording begins with the reading from Janet Chalmers.
An edited video recording of the Sunday service can be viewed on YouTube.
