Official truth-telling about national security is in short supply these days. Western governments dissemble about the Islamic connection to jihad and its progress globally. Chinese aggression is minimized and excused. Iranian nuclear ambitions are enabled, while we’re told they are being foreclosed.

So, it’s heartening to hear a leader – let alone a top U.S. military officer – speaking the truth about what Russia is doing to Ukraine, and its implications for the rest of us.

That man is General Philip Breedlove, the Supreme Allied Commander NATO. For months, he has been cutting through the Russian propaganda and allied dissimulation to call for action in the face of Vladimir Putin’s relentless, serial invasion of Ukraine.

Today, as the alliance meets in Wales, it must heed Gen. Breedlove – and stand up to Russia.
