Hunting Mentality with Santino Castellanos and Clint Whiting
Show Notes:
I sat down with hunters Santino Castellanos and Clint Whiting at the Hunt Expo in Utah. We talked about the mental side of hunting – worrying about failure, putting pressure on ourselves, and hunting as a lifestyle.
As experienced, enthusiastic hunters, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves in the field. We expect ourselves to succeed and bag an animal on every trip, but it doesn’t always go that way. It’s important to remember that hunting isn’t only about the result – it’s also about the experience. We also talked about guiding clients, seeing the sport through their eyes, and just having a good time in the field.
We also talked about focus. A lot of people don’t understand the level of focus that hunting requires. Focus is a critical part of being successful on the hunt. As you get more experienced as a hunter, that focus becomes easier to develop.
From there, we swapped stories about hunting. Santino and Clint had a great season, so they had plenty of fantastic stories to share. We agreed that patience is a critical tool as a hunter. It can be tough to stay patient and calm in the field, but keeping cool will almost always produce results. The best way to do this is simply practice, practice, practice.
Whats’ Inside:
- As hunters, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves. That’s not always great.
- Everyone has different reasons for hunting.
- Focus is critical when hunting.
- Staying patient in the field is tough, but important.
- How Phoenix Shooting Bags help me hunt.
