Why Hagel Was Fired

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has evidently been forced to resign. Notwithstanding President Obama’s public expression of appreciation at the White House yesterday, we’re entitled to know why Hagel was fired.

Some say it was over policy disputes concerning how best to combat Ebola or the Islamic State.  Perhaps the President no longer needs a token Republican in the Cabinet or simply wants to appoint the nation’s first female Secretary of Defense?  

A clue as to the real reason for Hagel’s sudden departure, however, may lie in his recent announcement that urgent action and over a billion dollars was needed to prop up our obsolescing nuclear deterrent. But Team Obama favors a policy of atrophy and attrition that would “rid the world of nuclear weapons,” starting with ours. So, goodbye Chuck Hagel.
