Lee Kelly and Allan Rampal join Bryan Dwyer to talk about New Zealand generally and particularly the winner of the 2013 Man Booker Prize Winner Eleanor Catton's Luminaries. Set on the 19th Century goldfields, the novel is a crime thriller and a "western" saga written in the form and style of 19th Century realism. The panel also discusses the American novel Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf (thanks Deb Aird for the loan).
Next week we review John Banville's The Sea, the 2005 Booker winner with some reference to Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge and Water Under The Bridge by Sumner Locke Elliot.
Coming up on The Book Show, weekly at 5pm Tuesday: The Cookbook Show on December 6 and The Science Show on a date to be announced.
