The Mercosur Trade Agreement is “a major gain” for the farming industry that will reduce tariffs and taxes on a whole range of products including dairy products. That’s according to the head of the European Commission in Ireland, Peter Power.
On Wednesday, the Commission formally proposed the deal for approval by the European Council. Members of the European Parliament will also vote on the agreement with the four Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay).
Peter Power says the Commission has introduced a range of measures that have addressed farmers’ concerns about the massive trade deal.
