On Wednesday, June 12, host Gene Wilhelm interviewed staff apologist of Catholic Answers and catholic.com, Trent Horn, on his new book, Counterfeit Christs. Trent became Catholic in high school and has continued to have a passion for learning about the faith and being able to explain and defend it. In the first part of the show, Gene talked about the saints of the day, 108 Polish martyrs who were martyred during WWII by the Nazis: 3 bishops, 52 priests, 26 men of male religious orders, 3 seminarians, 8 religious sisters, and 9 lay people. They were beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 1999. Hostess of Roundup, Judy Comeaux, gave us a surprise call live from St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican City to talk about her awesome travel experience overseas!
In the second part of the show, Trent Horn talked about the main point of Counterfeit: sharing who the real Jesus is, exposing distortions, and tackling misconceptions and partial truths about Our Lord. The chapters are set up with six groups of ideologies and under each of them are “counterfeit Christs”—false representations of Jesus that are endemic to those particular systems of thought. The groups are 1. Non-religious, 2. Atheists, 3. Other world religions, 4. Quasi-Christians, 5. Ideologues, and 6. Protestants who mistook Jesus saying that he was a prosperity preacher. Throughout the book, Trent shows how scripture and history expose these counterfeits in different ways. When asked why would someone want to read Counterfeit Christs, Trent said, “It helps them learn about who Jesus is, to get the full catechesis, knowing who He is, what he taught, what the first Christians believed about Jesus, and from there, to have intelligent answers for people who claim that the Church has misinterpreted who Jesus is.” The best place to get Trent Horn’s Counterfeit Christs is at shop.catholic.com.
