Yesterday, Atlanta’s international airport had an electrical fire that affected millions of people across the country, most especially those who were trapped at Hartsfield in trains, revolving doors and without food or water.

Fortunately, that crisis only lasted 10 hours, although many among the traveling public will be affected for far longer.

Parts of Puerto Rico are still without power, however, three months after Hurricane Maria took down the island’s grid. Some there won’t get electricity back until Spring.

The Trump administration’s new National Security Strategy being unveiled today reportedly prioritizes securing the U.S. electric grid. After all, North Korea is explicitly threatening to use electromagnetic pulses to destroy it – unleashing a catastrophe that would make Atlanta’s and Puerto Rico’s afflictions pale by comparison. And no one may be there to help us.

It’s time for action to secure the grid.
