In this episode, we hand the microphones over to Sherene Stewart and J-Maine Beazley- two event managers that are already making their mark with large scale First Nations events.
In 2019 Fed Square and the City of Melbourne hosted a partnership event called BlakHEART. This event was ambitious in many ways, firstly there was the short lead time then the mega task of finding 50+ First Nations artists to inhabit Fed Square and bring this event to life. BlakHEART was a huge success and it was all largely down to these two individuals.
These two are not only pulling off stellar events, they are revolutionising the arts industry, and getting large institutions and individuals to rethink how Indigenous artists and industry can better work together. And, how we can all continue to create, experience and support First Nations events.

World-class art galleries and installations. A diverse range of food and drink. Thrilling, extraordinary events that capture the hearts of Melburnians year after year. Fed Square is anything but square. Since opening in 2002, Fed Square has seen more than 100 million visits and been named the 6th Best Public Square in the World. Frankly, we’re slaying out here and it’s nice to be recognised.
