Hello friends! My guest for episode 684 is R&B chanteuse, Mélat! Her third album, Move Me 2: The Present came out last month and it's been getting a lot of radio play here in town. She was picked as one of NPR's "Bands To Watch at SXSW 2018", Austin 360's and Austin Music Foundation's "artist of the month" all in the last couple of months! If you live in Austin, you can see her this Friday, April 6th at Stubb's. To get tickets, music, videos and more go to beholdmelat.com. Mélat and I have a great conversation about her parents fleeing the communist regime of Ethiopia in 1980, growing up in Austin, growing up on her parents' lovingly curated mixture of African pop and American R&B, creating your own culture as a first generation American, finding her producer on Twitter, her ambitions, dreams and much, much more! i had a great time getting to know Mélat. I'm sure you will too. Let's get down!
Ciao! -JG
