Summer XO 2014 Volume 1

As we begin to wind down summer 2014, I thought now would be a good time to send it off with a pair of super-deep house-lovin’ sets.  Summer XO represents some of the darkest house tunes I’ve come across in a long time.  Despite its shiny happy disco beat, the lyrics to the Ting Ting’s new single “Wrong Club,” are pretty dark. Don’t get me wrong, this is my go-to tune of the moment, but this is some seriously deep shit.  That same undertone can be felt throughout both sets.  Even the Blondie classic “Heart of Glass” has been turned into this devious and dark deep house tune that frankly works surprisingly well.  I think it may be the whole Lana-tization (Lana Del Ray) of the current house scene that’s affecting these productions.  That’s not to say there aren’t some happy moments in-between the grooves, but if you’re looking to get your roller boogie on, this ain’t it LOL.
