At just 17 years of age Gene McGuire was branded as a murderer and sent to prison with little hope of release. In his book, Unshackled, he recounts 34 years, nine months, and 15 days of incarceration steeped in the culture of violence, drugs, and pornography that is prison life, all while serving a life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. He not only writes about the incident that changed his life as a teenager, he also points to another life changing moment many years later.
