Farewell to Gen. Mundy

Last week, the 30th Commandant of Marines, General Carl Mundy, succumbed to cancer.

General Mundy was a Marines’ Marine – a decorated combat veteran and leader. He was brilliant, yet self-effacing, beloved by his comrades and civilians, alike.

One of General Mundy’s most noteworthy contributions, however, came after he retired from the service. Five years ago, he organized a letter signed by eleven-hundred former generals and admirals strongly opposed to President Obama’s insistence that avowed homosexuals be allowed to serve in the armed forces.

Gen. Mundy knew that this sort of social experimentation would harm readiness, compounding Team Obama’s other efforts to hollow-out the U.S. military. He was right, and his vision and courage will be sorely missed by those who will have to try to undo the resulting damage.
