Memorial Day

Memorial Day has come and gone. For many of us, it just is the holiday that marks the beginning of summer, with pools opening and schools closing.

For some Americans, though, Memorial Day is truly a day of remembrance – of the service and sacrifice of millions of our countrymen and women in uniform.

That service and sacrifice was often made necessary and far more costly, though, because of our nation’s collective failure to recall past mistakes – and to avoid repeating them.

Instead, as we witness the emergence of the New Axis – comprised this time around by Russia, China and Iran – we should bear this in mind: Weakness is provocative. And aggression provoked, instead of deterred, will likely mean that many more of us will face future Memorial Days mourning the needlessly lost.
