The C. Melita Webb Poetry and Life
Religion & Spirituality:Spirituality
Thank you for joining us for a few minutes of inspiration with C. Melita Webb. Today we pick up in the second part of our open look at my life experiences with race and being dismissed by some who didn't see the full value of my life. It is interesting to note that as I spoke and reflected, my heart still feels some of the hurt and pain that the negativity infused into my life.
I shared my first experience with racism when I had to wait down the block while a classmate retrieved an item from her home. The newspaper articles that reported on hate groups and burning crosses in our area. In this segment, I relay how as I got older, the types of race issues changed and in ways put my health in jeopardy.
I recall the experience of visiting a local high school. Initially the segment, I said two other students of color, but I think it was four in total, one of which might have been biracial. Furthermore, I included the day-to-day slights that often go unnoticed.
These are just some of the experiences colored by race while I lived in three different areas on the east side, including Juanita in Kirkland, Lake Hills in Bellevue, and Lake Sammamish in Redmond.
Stay tuned for the conclusion of part three Race the Ongoing Divider in America
