This is the story of where entrepreneurship and a passion for skin care come together and an industry is changed forever. It started in Los Angeles, 1983, where Jane Wurwand, a tenured, United Kingdom-trained skin therapist new to the American "esthetician" industry, recognized that continuing skin therapy education was practically non-existent in the United States. After opening a small classroom in Marina del Rey, California under the name The International Dermal Institute (IDI), Jane invited licensed skin therapists to the postgraduate training to help make them competitive in the business.
In 1986, Dermalogica was born, as it didn’t take long for Jane to realize no product line embraced her belief of skin health as opposed to "beauty," so she developed her own. The vision was clear – a product line free of common irritants and artificial ingredients and most importantly one that would improve skin health. With more than 100,000 skin therapists trained and available in over 80 countries, Dermalogica products are the number one choice of skin care professionals and consumers worldwide.
