Have you ever seen the poster in a jail in an old western movie that says, “WANTED: DEAD and ALIVE”? No, because that would be ridiculous. In fact, there is perhaps no more stark contrast between two adjectives than the words “DEAD” and “ALIVE.” Think about the warmth and vitality of LIFE vs. the coldness, total silence and finality of DEATH—man’s mortal enemy.
In this teaching, most appropriate for the month in which we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, John Lynn will do a critical thinking critique of a Colson Report titled “Happy Lent. Seriously.” It is about our culture’s fear of mortality, and the lengths some people go in order to deny it. On the other hand, it seems that not many of our Christian brethren are aware of the truth that millions of us WILL NOT DIE. Thus too many for “all their lifetimes are subject to the fear of death.” Conversely, understanding what Jesus accomplished for us will negate any such fear and help us be “steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.”
