We're joined by the writer and film critic Hannah Strong to talk about "Eighth Grade" the 2018 film debut from musician, comedian and Youtuber Bo Burnham. The film explores the final days of middle school for a young American girl, and her relationship to her family, her social circle as well as the alternative persona she has made for herself online. We discuss why this might be one of the few successful examples of how social media can be depicted on screen, how much of this derived from Burnham's own experiences on the platforms, and whether, in spite of its successes, it really does capture the lived experiences of young Americans.
