I remember back when I would never hike, hunt, or camp solo. Now, I crave it! And you can too!
Getting out and exploring by yourself, especially as a female, can be intimidating!
Over the years I’ve talked to hundreds of women who would agree. In fact, one of the #1 things I hear is that ladies aren’t confident enough to hike, run, walk, camp, hunt, etc. by themselves!
To each of us, building confidence looks different, but here are a few tips that helped give me the boost I needed to do things solo.
Small - short or close to home adventures.
Plan - go when you have plenty of daylight, good weather, know your route. Especially important to know where you’re going if you will be in areas without service.
Prepare - take a pack with essentials, communication device, water, and sidearm (or some kind of pepper spray).
Awareness - pay attention to where you are, be present, and don’t let yourself get distracted. Also, limit using earbuds or headphones so that you can stay in tune with your surroundings.
Communicate - always let SOMEONE know where you are heading and when you’ll be back (and stick to that plan).
Trust - listen to your instincts and trust your gut without giving into fear.
Companion - take your favorite 4 legged friend or invite someone to come along. Maybe starting with a friend or two will be your gateway into more time outdoors!
