An Irish wool co-operative that’s owned and run by farmers has just won an EU prize for its contribution to the social fabric of rural areas. The Galway Wool Co-op was runner up in one of the EU’s Agricultural and Rural Inspiration Awards (ARIA) categories.
It was set up to restore the “cultural integrity” of native Irish wool and to establish niche market opportunities domestically and internationally for the wool. The Co.founder of the Galway Wool Co-op is Blatnaid Gallagher. She explained more about the project.
